A strategic mainland corridor
Aegean motorway is the concessionnaire of the the Maliakos–Kleidi section of the A1 highway, the main north–south corridor linking Athens to Thessaloniki. Crossing mountainous terrain and key logistics areas in central Greece, the corridor carries intense passenger traffic alongside long-distance freight flows moving between southern Europe and the Balkans. As part of the Trans-European Transport Network, it plays a vital role in national mobility and regional trade.
Key facts
- Traffic-risk concession with the Greek State
- Around 30 million toll transactions per year
- More than 20.000 heavy vehicles per day
- Advanced truck parking solutions
- Three twin-bore tunnels including the 6 km Tempi tunnel, the longest in South-East Europe
Services supporting freight mobility
To support professional drivers and improve traffic management, Aegean motorway has deployed advanced truck parking solutions enabling safer and more efficient rest areas for heavy vehicles. These services improve working conditions for drivers, optimise freight flows and contribute to safer traffic along the corridor.
Tunnel technologies
Crossing mountainous terrain, Aegean motorway includes strategic tunnels that require specific expertise. Our recent renovation of the Katerini tunnel, in partnership with VINCI Construction, illustrates our know-how: upgraded ventilation, LED lighting and fully modernised safety systems.
